Choosing your camera

Which camera should I choose?

It depends on where the camera goes and how you want to see your photos:

  • SD card cameras (Full HD, Full HD with Screen, Dual Lens, Night Pro, 4K Pro): the simplest option. Photos and videos are saved on the microSD card and you check them on the camera screen or on a computer. No app, no SIM, no running costs.
  • WiFi cameras (4K WiFi, 4K WiFi Plus): the same, plus you can view and download photos on your phone when you are standing near the camera. Ideal for a garden.
  • 4G cameras (4G Essential, 4G, 4G Pro, Solar-Powered 4G, 4G AI): photos are sent to your phone over the mobile network wherever there is signal. Ideal for fields, woods, farms or a second home you can't visit often.
  • 4G Security Camera: for yards, building sites, outbuildings, gates and holiday homes with no WiFi and no mains power.

Still not sure? Use our comparison page or email contact@wyldcam.com and tell us where you want to use it.

What's the difference between WiFi and 4G?

A WiFi camera creates its own small WiFi network. Your phone connects to it directly when you are close by, so you can browse and download photos on the spot. It does not connect to your home broadband, so it can't send you photos or alerts when you are away.

A 4G camera works like a mobile phone: it uses a SIM card and sends photos to the free app wherever there is mobile signal, so you see them at home, at work or on holiday.

Do I need a subscription?

  • SD card and WiFi cameras: never. No SIM, no app subscription, no running costs.
  • 4G AI and 4G Security Camera: a free SIM card is included, with 100 photos a month. If you need more, optional plans are available in the app from under £5 a month. You only pay if you choose to.
  • Other 4G cameras: the SIM and data allowance depend on the model. Email us at contact@wyldcam.com before or after you buy and we'll tell you exactly what is included for your camera.

Can I use it in my garden?

Yes. Every WyldCam camera works in a garden. For foxes, hedgehogs, badgers and birds, a camera aimed 2 to 5 m from where animals pass gives the sharpest photos. A WiFi camera lets you check photos on your phone from the garden without taking the card out.

Getting started

What's in the box?

Your camera, a mounting strap and a user manual, with the accessories listed for your model. The full list for each camera is in the "What's in the box" tab on its product page.

Not included: AA batteries and the microSD card. Free microSD cards come with our 2 and 3 camera bundles, and you can add one in the cart.

How do I set up my camera for the first time?

  1. Fit the batteries with the switch on OFF (see "Which batteries should I use?").
  2. Insert a microSD card and format it in the camera (menu option "Format").
  3. Switch to TEST or SETUP (the name depends on the model). This is the set-up mode: the screen lights up and you can change settings.
  4. Set the date and time, the photo or video mode and the sensitivity. On app models, pair the camera with the app now (see your camera's question below).
  5. Switch to ON. The camera counts down for a few seconds, then starts watching. Leave the area: it now takes photos or videos whenever something moves.

Tip: do a 10-minute test in your garden before you take it to the woods.

What do OFF, TEST/SETUP and ON mean?

  • OFF: the camera is off. Always switch to OFF before changing batteries, the microSD card or the SIM card.
  • TEST / SETUP: for settings, playback and pairing the app. The screen stays on and the camera does not record on its own, so this mode uses batteries quickly. Don't leave it in this position.
  • ON: the working mode. The screen turns off and the camera records when motion is detected.

How do I set the date and time?

On models with a screen, set them in the menu in TEST/SETUP mode. On app models, the app sets them (check the time zone in the camera settings, then save). On the Full HD Trail Camera (no screen), create a text file named time.txt in the root of the microSD card containing the date and time in this format: 2026-10-16 12:00:00, then put the card back in the camera and switch it on.

Where and how high should I mount it?

  • Strap it firmly to a tree or post, about 0.5 to 1.5 m off the ground for deer, foxes and badgers, lower for hedgehogs.
  • Aim it at a path, a gap in a hedge or a feeding spot, 2 to 5 m away for the sharpest photos.
  • Avoid facing the rising or setting sun, and clear branches and tall grass in front of the lens: moving leaves cause empty photos.
  • Angle it slightly down rather than up at the sky.

Is it hard to set up?

No. Fit batteries and a card, set the date, switch to ON and strap it up: most customers are done in 10 minutes. App models need a few more minutes to pair with your phone. If you get stuck at any step, email contact@wyldcam.com with your camera model and we'll walk you through it.

Set-up by camera

Which app does my camera use, and where do I find it?

All our apps are free on the App Store (iPhone) and Google Play (Android). Search for the name below, or scan the QR code where shown.

  • Full HD, Full HD with Screen, 4K Pro, Night Pro, Dual Lens: no app needed. Everything is set on the camera.
  • 4K WiFi Trail Camera: ZOOJI app. The QR code appears on the camera screen: switch to TEST and open WIFI in the menu.
  • 4K WiFi Trail Camera Plus: GuardWifi app (orange icon). No QR code: search "GuardWifi" in your app store, then connect your phone to the camera's WiFi (name and password shown on the camera screen).
  • 4G Trail Camera and 4G Pro: GuardPoint app. In SETUP mode, the QR code is shown on the camera screen; in the app, tap "+" and scan it.
  • 4G Essential: Suntekcam app. In TEST mode, open Network in the camera menu and select Device ID: the QR code appears on the screen.
  • Solar-Powered 4G: UCon app. Scan the QR code (UID) printed on the camera.
  • 4G AI: Trailcam Ace app. Scan the QR code on the camera body.
  • 4G Security Camera: CalmGuard app. Scan the camera's QR code in the app to add it.

Step-by-step set-up for each camera is just below.

How do I set up the Full HD Trail Camera?

  • 4 AA batteries (1.5V alkaline or lithium), or a 5V adapter or 5V solar panel. Remove the batteries when you use mains power.
  • microSD card up to 32GB.
  • No screen: switch to ON, the light flashes 3 times and the camera starts. Each trigger takes 3 photos and a 10-second video by default.
  • Check your photos by putting the card in a computer, or in a phone with our SD card adapter.
  • Date and time: see "How do I set the date and time?".

How do I set up the Full HD Trail Camera with Screen?

  • 8 AA batteries; alkaline batteries are recommended. Don't mix old and new batteries. With the 6V adapter, run it without batteries inside.
  • microSD card up to 32GB (Class 10).
  • Switch to TEST to use the menu (date, time, language, photo or video mode), then to ON. Review your photos on the 2.0" screen in TEST mode.

How do I set up the 4K WiFi Trail Camera?

  1. Insert 4 AA batteries (1.5V) and a microSD card (up to 256GB). The card must be in place, otherwise a warning stays on the screen.
  2. Switch to TEST. Open WIFI in the camera menu: a QR code appears on the screen.
  3. Install the free ZOOJI app and scan the QR code.
  4. On your phone, turn on Bluetooth and turn off mobile data, then tap the link icon in the app.
  5. If asked, join the WiFi network named SUNTEK_WiFi800_XXXXXX in your phone's WiFi settings. Password: 12345678.
  6. When you have finished, switch to ON. Don't leave the camera in TEST: the screen stays on and drains the batteries within hours.

Range: about 30 m in woodland or indoors, up to 100 m in open ground; Bluetooth about 5 to 8 m.

How do I set up the 4K WiFi Trail Camera Plus?

  1. Insert 8 AA batteries (alkaline or lithium, not rechargeable) and a microSD card up to 256GB (Class 10 or faster).
  2. Switch to SETUP and set the date and time in the menu.
  3. Install the free GuardWifi app (orange icon) from the App Store or Google Play.
  4. Press the LEFT key on the camera to turn on WiFi. Connect your phone to the WiFi name shown on the camera screen, using the password shown on the screen.
  5. Open GuardWifi to see live view, browse and download photos and videos, and change settings.

To save battery, the camera's WiFi turns off on its own after 1 to 3 minutes if no phone connects.

How do I set up the 4K Pro, Night Pro or Dual Lens?

  • No app and no SIM: everything is set on the camera.
  • Batteries: 8 AA (4K Pro, Night Pro) or 6 AA (Dual Lens), alkaline or lithium, not rechargeable. 12V external input for a mains adapter or solar panel.
  • microSD card up to 256GB, Class 10 or faster. Format it in the camera, especially if it was used in another device.
  • Switch to SETUP/TEST, set the date, time and language, then switch to ON. Review your photos on the 2.4" screen.

How do I set up the 4G Trail Camera?

  1. Insert 12 AA batteries (alkaline or lithium, not rechargeable) and a microSD card, with the camera on OFF. The SIM is built in (eSIM): nothing to insert.
  2. Switch to SETUP and wait about 1 minute for the camera to connect.
  3. Install the free GuardPoint app, tap "+" and scan the QR code shown on the camera screen.
  4. Set the time zone and your sending options in the app, and tap SAVE after each change.
  5. Switch to ON. Don't switch straight from ON to SETUP: go through OFF.

Before removing a camera from your account in the app, download the photos you want to keep.

How do I set up the 4G Pro Trail Camera?

  1. Insert 12 AA batteries (alkaline or lithium, not rechargeable) and a microSD card, with the camera on OFF.
  2. Check the SIM card is in its slot, then switch to SETUP.
  3. Install the free GuardPoint app, tap "+" and scan the QR code on the camera screen.
  4. Set the time zone, sending frequency and other options in the app, save, then switch to ON.

Status light: green flashing means a firmware update is running (don't switch off), blue means the batteries are low. The menu offers a 4-digit password and GPS location.

How do I set up the 4G Essential Trail Camera?

  1. Insert 8 AA batteries (1.5V), a microSD card (up to 256GB) and the SIM card, with the camera on OFF. Screw on the antenna.
  2. Switch to TEST. In the menu, open Network and select the Device ID QR code.
  3. Install the free Suntekcam app, tap "+" and scan the QR code. If a password is asked, it is the last 8 digits of the camera's Device ID (IMEI).
  4. Switch to ON.

Signal icon: green means the camera has signal; white means no connection (check the SIM is fitted and active). Cloud icon: green means connected to the app. If the app shows Chinese, set your phone's language to English.

How do I set up the Solar-Powered 4G Trail Camera?

  1. Insert the SIM card first, then the batteries. Wait about 1 minute for the blue light.
  2. Install the free UCon app, register with your email address, then tap "Add a device" and scan the QR code (UID) on the camera.
  3. To restart pairing, hold the reset button for 3 seconds.
  4. Mount it with the solar panel facing the sun (south in the UK). The green charging light goes out when the batteries are full.

Signal light: red weak, blue medium, green strong. Photos are saved on the microSD card (up to 128GB); cloud storage is optional and can be bought in the app.

How do I set up the 4G AI Trail Camera?

  1. Insert 12 AA batteries (alkaline, NiMH rechargeable or lithium) and a microSD card up to 128GB. Cards above 32GB must be formatted in the camera.
  2. The free SIM card and 4G antenna are in the box: fit the SIM and screw on the antenna.
  3. Install the free Trailcam Ace app, create an account and scan the QR code on the camera.
  4. Switch to SETUP and wait until all the lights are green. Press SYNC to send a test photo: it appears in the app.
  5. Switch to ON. Every setting is then changed from the app, and firmware updates arrive over the air.

Signal light: green excellent, yellow good, red poor. A slow red blink means no SIM card is detected.

How do I set up the 4G Security Camera?

  1. Charge the built-in battery over USB-C before first use.
  2. Fit the SIM card supplied, the 4G antenna and a microSD card (8 to 128GB; format cards above 32GB in the camera).
  3. Install the free CalmGuard app and scan the QR code to add the camera.
  4. Draw your activity zones, choose your alerts, then fix the bracket to a wall or post (or use the strap).

The 12V DC input takes a mains adapter or an optional solar panel.

4G cameras, SIM and data

Is a SIM card included?

Yes, every WyldCam 4G camera comes ready to use: a SIM card in the box, or a built-in eSIM on the 4G Trail Camera. No WiFi is needed.

How many photos are included, and what happens after?

4G AI and 4G Security Camera: 100 photos a month are included free. If you need more, optional plans are available in the app from under £5 a month. Your photos are always saved on the microSD card as well.

Other 4G models: email us at contact@wyldcam.com and we'll tell you the allowance for your camera and how to add more if you need it.

Which network does it use?

The 4G AI's free SIM works on the main UK networks. For the best results, check that your own phone gets 4G signal at the spot where you will place the camera. The antenna must be screwed on firmly.

Why am I not receiving photos on my phone?

  • Check the camera is switched to ON, not TEST/SETUP.
  • Check the signal light or icon: if it is red or white, move the camera to a spot with better signal, or higher up.
  • Check the antenna is screwed on and the SIM card is fitted (switch to OFF first).
  • Check your monthly photo allowance in the app.
  • Check a microSD card is inserted and not full.
  • Check the batteries: low batteries can stop sending before they stop the camera.

Still nothing? Email us your camera model and a screenshot of the app, and we'll sort it out with you.

Do I need to pay for cloud storage?

No. Every photo and video is saved on your microSD card for free. Some apps offer optional paid cloud storage; you never need it to use the camera.

Can I watch live?

Live view on demand is available on the 4G AI, the Solar-Powered 4G and the 4G Security Camera. The 4G Essential lets you ask for a photo or video on demand from the app. The 4K WiFi Trail Camera Plus offers live view on your phone when you are within WiFi range.

WiFi cameras

How far does the WiFi reach?

About 30 m through woodland or indoors, and up to 100 m in open ground with nothing in the way. Bluetooth, used on some models for the first connection, reaches about 5 to 8 m.

Can it connect to my home WiFi?

No. Our WiFi trail cameras create their own WiFi network and talk to your phone directly; they don't join your home router or broadband. That's why they don't send alerts when you are away from the camera. For photos sent anywhere, choose a 4G camera.

My phone won't connect. What should I do?

  1. Check a microSD card is inserted and the camera is in TEST/SETUP mode with fresh batteries.
  2. Turn on Bluetooth and turn off mobile data on your phone, so it doesn't jump back to 4G.
  3. Stand within a few metres of the camera for the first connection.
  4. Use the QR code shown on the camera screen, or join the camera's WiFi network in your phone's settings with the password shown on the screen or in the manual.
  5. Close and reopen the app, then try again.

Still stuck? Email us and we'll send you a step-by-step video for your model.

Why do the batteries run down quickly on my WiFi camera?

The WiFi and the screen use a lot of power. Leaving the camera in TEST mode, or with WiFi switched on, can drain the batteries within hours. Once you have finished, switch it to ON: the WiFi and screen switch off and the batteries last for months. Use good-quality 1.5V alkaline or lithium AA batteries.

Batteries, power and memory cards

Which batteries should I use?

  • Use good-quality 1.5V AA alkaline or lithium batteries, all new and of the same brand. Lithium lasts longest and copes best with cold.
  • Don't use rechargeable AA batteries in the 4K WiFi Plus, 4K Pro, Night Pro, Dual Lens, 4G or 4G Pro: the manufacturer advises against them.
  • The 4G AI also accepts NiMH rechargeable AA batteries.
  • The Solar-Powered 4G and the 4G Security Camera have built-in rechargeable batteries.
  • Batteries are not included.

How long do the batteries last?

Up to 6, 12, 15 or 18 months on standby, depending on the model (see the specifications). Real-world life is shorter when the camera is triggered often, records long videos, works a lot at night (infrared), sends photos over 4G or stays in the cold. A busy spot with videos can need new batteries after a few weeks; a quiet spot with photos only lasts much longer.

Can I use a solar panel or mains power?

Yes. Most models have an external power input: 5V (Full HD), 6V (Full HD with Screen, 4K WiFi, 4K WiFi Plus) or 12V (4K Pro, Night Pro, Dual Lens, 4G Essential, 4G, 4G Pro, 4G AI, 4G Security). Check the voltage before you buy a panel or adapter. The Solar-Powered 4G has its own built-in panel.

Which microSD card do I need?

A good-quality Class 10 card or faster (U3 for 4K video), up to your camera's maximum: 32GB for the Full HD and Full HD with Screen, 128GB for the 4G AI, Solar-Powered 4G and 4G Security, 256GB for the others. Always format the card in the camera before first use. A card that is too large or formatted elsewhere is the most common reason a camera shows "card error".

How do I view my photos?

  • On the camera screen in TEST/SETUP mode (models with a screen).
  • On a computer, by putting the microSD card in a card reader.
  • On your phone with our SD card adapter for iPhone and Android.
  • In the free app: over WiFi near the camera (WiFi models), or anywhere with signal (4G models).

Photos, video and night vision

Will the night vision scare animals away?

No-glow cameras use 940 nm infrared, which is virtually invisible to most animals, so wildlife behaves as normal. The Full HD Trail Camera with Screen and the 4G Security Camera use low-glow 850 nm infrared, which shows a faint red glow when it fires but lights the scene a little more brightly.

Why are night photos black and white?

All trail cameras use infrared at night, which gives black-and-white images without a visible flash. This is normal. The 4G AI can turn night photos into colour with its AI colour night vision.

Why do I get empty photos?

Usually moving grass, branches or sunlight trigger the sensor. Clear the vegetation in front of the camera, avoid facing the sun, lower the sensitivity a level, and on the 4G AI and 4G Security use the detection zones. Fast animals may also have passed before the photo was taken: aim the camera along a path rather than across it.

Why are night photos blurry or white?

Something too close to the lens (a branch or grass within 1 m) reflects the infrared and washes out the image. Clear the area in front, keep the subject 2 to 5 m away and wipe the lens. Animals moving fast at night can look blurred: use video mode for the best result.

How far can the camera see?

Motion detection reaches up to 15 to 30 m and night vision up to 15 to 40 m, depending on the model. Each product page lists the exact figures. For the sharpest results, aim at a spot 2 to 5 m away.

Does it record sound?

Yes, on models whose specifications say "with sound". Audio can be turned off in the menu or the app.

Outdoor use

Can it stay out in the rain?

Yes. Every camera is weatherproof (IP56 to IP67, depending on the model) and rated to work down to −20 °C. Close the case and clips fully, keep the rubber seals clean and avoid pointing the lens straight up at the sky.

Can I lock the camera to a tree?

Yes, with our Anti-Theft Metal Security Case, a lockable steel box that keeps the lens, sensors and controls fully usable. It fits the Full HD Trail Camera with Screen and the 4G Essential Trail Camera only. You'll find it in our accessories.

Troubleshooting

My camera won't switch on

  • Check every battery is facing the right way and is new, of the same type and 1.5V.
  • Switch to OFF, wait 10 seconds and switch to TEST/SETUP again.
  • On the Full HD Trail Camera (no screen), the light flashes 3 times when it starts.
  • On built-in battery models, charge for a few hours first.

The screen shows "card error" or "no card"

Switch off, take the card out and put it back firmly. Check it isn't larger than your camera's maximum. Then format it in the camera menu (this erases the card). If it still fails, try another card.

The screen stays black in ON mode

That's normal: in ON mode the screen turns off to save batteries while the camera watches. Switch to TEST/SETUP to use the screen.

How do I update the firmware?

The 4G AI, 4G Security and 4G Essential update from the app or menu ("Check Update") over the air. Don't switch off during an update. For other models, if an update is ever needed, we'll send you simple instructions.
